I was born in Watertown and have spent all but 2-yrs. of my 49-yrs. as a resident of Dodge County. I attended St. Johns Lutheran School in Juneau, and graduated from Dodgeland High School, Juneau, in 1978. I joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard while a senior in high school and have been blessed with a fulfilling military career. I was an employee by the Department of Corrections from 1979 until 1988. I started my career with the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department in 1988. I was first elected Sheriff in 2002. My Sheriff’s Department career reflects 20-years of unblemished service to the citizens of Dodge County.
I moved to Fox Lake in 1988 and became active in the community. My community service has broadened my knowledge and provided the needed insight into local, county and state government. Receiving my Real Estate license in the early 80’s, enjoying working with my father and brother at Nehls Realty LLC.
I feel education is critically important to those whom seek a high office of public trust and responsibility. Law enforcement has changed considerably in the past and continues to today. Technology has become an effective law enforcement tool. Complex rules, regulations, policies and procedures require a strong educational background in the administration of tax dollars and personnel. I have had the opportunity to work with many great people in a variety of positions; those experiences have provided me with great insight and the necessary ability to succeed as Dodge County Sheriff.
